Okay, so let’s talk about that Amy Winehouse beehive. You know, that huge, iconic hair? I’ve always loved it and wanted to try it out, so I finally did!
Getting Started
First off, I needed to figure out what I was even dealing with. Turns out, Amy’s hair wasn’t always all her own. She’d use a big hairpiece sometimes, which they called her “hair baby”. I did not realize that. She had some hair loss, which is a bummer, but it happens. And her style changed a lot depending on what she was into at the time. Early on, it was all vintage clothes and scarves. Later, for her “Back to Black” album, things got a little different.
The Experiment
Anyway, I decided to go for it. I watched some tutorials online, you know, the usual “step-by-step” kind of stuff. They made it look easy enough, right? I mean not really but whatever. I grabbed my teasing comb, a mountain of hairspray, and got to work.
- Teasing: So, the first part was teasing my hair. Like, a lot. I sectioned off the top part of my hair and just teased it like crazy, trying to get that volume. My arms got tired, I’m not gonna lie.
- Forming the Shape: Then, I tried to smooth over the top and shape it into that beehive. This was tricky. It’s all about getting that rounded, smooth look on top of all that teased mess. And mine was a MESS.
- Securing It: Next up, bobby pins. Lots and lots of bobby pins. I pinned the sides and back, trying to keep everything in place. I probably used a whole pack. I am not really good at this part…
- Hairspray: And finally, the hairspray. I sprayed and sprayed until that thing was solid. You could probably knock someone out with it. It was rock solid for sure.
The Results
Okay, so, my first attempt? Not exactly Amy Winehouse level. It was more like a lopsided bird’s nest, to be honest. But hey, I tried! I think with some practice, and maybe one of those “hair baby” things, I could get closer to the real deal. It’s definitely a look that takes some skill. I should definitely keep trying. And lots of hairspray. And patience.
It was fun to try something new, though. Even if I looked a little crazy, I felt a bit like a rockstar for a few hours. If you’re thinking about trying it, go for it! Just be prepared for a lot of teasing and maybe a few failed attempts. And don’t forget the hairspray! You’ll need it. Trust me.
