Okay, so, I’ve always been a huge fan of “The Sopranos,” and let me tell you, Carmela Soprano’s style is something else. I mean, that woman knew how to rock some serious bling. So, I got this crazy idea to try and put together a little collection inspired by her iconic jewelry.

First things first, I re-watched a bunch of episodes, just really paying attention to what she was wearing. There’s this one scene where she’s all dressed up in this black lace outfit with layered necklaces and diamonds, and that classic updo hairstyle. It was all the inspiration I needed, it is just the vibe I want.
Then, I started digging around online. I found some interesting tidbits, like how the show’s jewelry stylist, Lauren Kulchinsky Levison, was a genius at using jewelry to tell the characters’ stories. Also, I have to say that I have been influenced by my Italian-American Catholic background, it makes sense that I love those Saint medallion pendants.
I started sketching out some ideas. Carmela’s style is all about being bold and a little flashy, but also classy, you know? She’s got this mix of being a loyal, loving wife and mom, but also this inner turmoil and frustration. That’s what I wanted to capture.
My Design Process
- Gathering Inspiration: Lots of screenshots, and some deep dives into Italian-American jewelry traditions.
- Sketching and Refining: I probably filled up a whole notebook with different ideas. I wanted pieces that felt both modern and a little retro, just like Carmela’s style.
- Material Choices: I’m thinking gold, of course, maybe some silver. And definitely some diamonds or diamond-like stones for that sparkle. Carmela loves her diamonds, and honestly, who doesn’t?
- Religious Symbolism: Carmela is all Catholic, maybe she is not that kind of faithful. But I’m thinking of incorporating some subtle crosses and maybe even a St. Jerome medallion. I read somewhere that Tony wore one of those, and it just felt right. And of course, the Saint medallion is necessary!
So, that’s where I’m at right now. It’s a work in progress, but I’m really excited about it. I think it’s going to be a fun way to pay homage to one of the most stylish characters on TV. I just really like the feeling Carmela gave to me. It’s more than just jewelry, it’s about capturing a whole attitude, a whole way of being, I guess.
I’ll keep you guys updated on how it’s going. Maybe I’ll even share some pictures of the finished pieces. Who knows, maybe I’ll even start selling them, there are many people loving her style. It’s been a fun ride so far, and I can’t wait to see where it goes. It is not only a tribute to Carmela’s Style but also a discovery trip for me.
