Okay, so, I’ve always been obsessed with Carrie Bradshaw’s curls. You know, the ones from Sex and the City? They’re just so bouncy and full of life! I mean, my hair is naturally wavy, somewhere between a 2B and 2C, but it tends to get frizzy and just generally unruly. So, I decided to try and recreate those iconic curls and see if I could finally tame my mane.

First, I watched a bunch of videos and read some articles online. It seemed like the key was to enhance my natural waves and define them without making them look too stiff or crunchy. Some folks with naturally curly hair said they were lucky, while others said I needed to pay more attention to my hair health first. They also metioned cutting back on heat.
Then, I started experimenting with different products and techniques. Here’s what I did:
- I ditched my regular shampoo and switched to a curl-friendly one that wouldn’t strip my hair of its natural oils.
- I also started using a deep conditioner once a week to keep my hair hydrated. Apparently, dryness is a big no-no when you’re going for those Carrie curls because my hair has a high porosity according to some articles.
- After washing, I applied a curl-defining cream and scrunched my hair upwards to encourage the curls to form.
- Then, and this was the tricky part, I tried diffusing my hair. I used a diffuser attachment on my blow dryer and dried my hair on a low heat setting, scrunching it upwards as I went. This took forever, but I think it really helped to define the curls without creating too much frizz.
- Some people recommended air drying, but I just don’t have that kind of patience!
It definitely took some trial and error. There were a few days where my hair looked more like a bird’s nest than Carrie’s glamorous curls. But I kept tweaking my routine, and eventually, I started to get the hang of it.
My Results
I wouldn’t say my hair looks exactly like Carrie’s, but it’s definitely a lot closer than it was before! My curls are more defined, bouncier, and way less frizzy. I’m actually pretty happy with how it turned out. It’s not perfect, but it’s a big improvement. I feel like I’ve finally found a way to embrace my natural waves and make them work for me. Plus, I feel way more confident with my hair now, which is a huge win!
