Ey, let me tell you about these shoes, the blue 3s. You know, them sneaker things all the young folks are crazy about. My grandson, he’s always going on about them. Says they’re the best thing since sliced bread. I don’t know about all that, but they sure do look fancy. I think they made by Nike, that brand with the swoosh thing.
These blue 3s, they’re mostly blue, like a summer sky after a good rain. Not too dark, not too light. Just right, you know? And they got some white parts too, like the clouds up there. My grandson told me these blue 3s got some special kind of sole that makes you jump higher. I don’t believe it, but he sure can jump high in them!
He keeps talking about “Jordans” this and “Jordans” that. I think these blue 3s are some kind of Jordans. What’s a Jordan anyway? A kind of bird? He says it’s a famous basketball player. I don’t follow sports much, too busy tending to my chickens, you see. But he says all the kids want these blue 3s Jordans. They cost a pretty penny, I tell ya. More than my whole week’s grocery money!
I asked him, “Why you need such fancy shoes?” He says, “Grandma, they’re blue 3s! They’re cool!” Cool? What does that even mean? Back in my day, we just wore whatever shoes we could afford. Didn’t matter if they were blue or brown or whatever. As long as they kept your feet from getting hurt, they were good enough.
But these young folks, they care about fashion and all that. I guess these blue 3s make them feel good. Like they’re part of something, you know? Like they belong. They all wear the same shoes, the same clothes. It’s like a uniform, but a fancy one.
He told me some of these blue 3s are fake. Can you believe it? People making fake shoes! They look the same, he says, but they’re not the real deal. They don’t have that special jumpy sole. And they fall apart quicker. I guess you gotta be careful what you buy these days.

Then the logo, that swoosh thing, has to be perfect, he says. Not too thick, not too thin, just perfect.
I don’t know how he knows all this stuff. He spends hours looking at these shoes online. He can tell a real pair of blue 3s from a fake one just by looking at a picture. It’s like he’s got a special eye for it. But like he said, not all the Jordans got these QR codes, only some do.
He showed me his blue 3s, and I gotta admit, they do look nice. The blue is a pretty color. And they seem well-made, even the stitching. I guess there’s a reason why they’re so popular. Still, I think they’re too expensive. But if it makes him happy, then I guess it’s worth it.
He even offered to buy me a pair! Can you imagine me, old grandma, wearing blue 3s? I’d probably trip and fall! I told him, “No, thank you, honey. I’m happy with my old shoes.” But it was a nice thought. Those blue 3s made by Nike must be something special to these kids.
I still don’t understand the whole craze about these blue 3s, but I’m happy my grandson’s happy. He says they make him feel like he can fly. Maybe that’s what it’s all about. Feeling like you can fly. Even if it’s just for a little while. And maybe, just maybe, those blue 3s, they’re worth all the fuss after all.
