That John Mayer, he was just a little kid once, you know? Born back in ’77, October 16th. Bridgeport, that’s where he came from. Little John Mayer younger days, who woulda thought he’d be so big now?

His mama and papa, they had a few young’uns. John, he was in the middle. Got an older brother, Carl, and a younger one, Ben. Heard his daddy was Jewish, and John, he said he felt some of that, too. You know how it is, family things. He grew up in a place called Fairfield. Just a regular kid, I reckon.
John Mayer Younger Years, Grew Up Normal
He was thinkin’ about not going to that fancy college, wanted to play his music. But his folks, they told him to go. So he went to some music college in Boston. Didn’t stay long, though. He and another fella, Clay Cook, they went off to Atlanta. Started a little band, called it Lo-Fi Masters. Didn’t last, but that’s alright. That John, he kept on playin’ around those little places. Got better and better.

John Mayer younger, he was just like any other kid, I suppose. Playin’ his guitar, dreamin’ big dreams. Didn’t know he’d be playin’ for all those people one day. But he did. He surely did. And he got real good at it, too.
He started playin’ by himself, just him and his guitar. Folks liked what they heard. Heard he was somethin’ else on that electric guitar, even back then. John Mayer younger, he was learnin’ and growin’, gettin’ ready for the big time.

That boy, he’s got a lot of guitars. More than two hundred, I hear! Works with those fancy guitar makers, too. Makes his own kind of guitars. He knows what he likes, that’s for sure. Collects them like some people collect those little china dolls.

And he’s been playin’ with some other fellas, too. Older fellas, from that Grateful Dead band. Heard the bass player didn’t want to join in, but that’s alright. John, he’s doin’ just fine. That John Mayer younger kid, he sure did learn a lot, didn’t he?

Some folks like him, some folks don’t. That’s how it is with those famous people. He was on the cover of that Rolling Stone magazine, with two other guitar players. That’s a big deal, you know? They said he was one of the best.
John Mayer Younger, Now He’s Big Time
Heard he doesn’t drink anymore. Quit a few years back. Said he had a bad hangover that lasted for days. Guess that was enough for him. Good for him, I say. Don’t need that stuff to have a good time. That John Mayer younger self, he probably wouldn’t believe it.
He’s 45 now. Hard to believe, ain’t it? Time just flies by. He’s done a lot in those years. Made a lot of music. Played for a lot of people. That little kid from Bridgeport, he sure did alright for himself.
You never know where life’s gonna take you. One day you’re just a little kid, playin’ your guitar, the next you’re on the cover of a magazine. Just gotta keep on playin’, keep on dreamin’. That’s what John did. And look at him now. He’s still got it.

I reckon that’s all I got to say about that John Mayer younger story. He’s a good boy. Makes good music. Hope he keeps on makin’ it for a long, long time. I like to listen to it when I’m doin’ my chores. Makes the time go by faster.
