Okay, so, I’ve been messing around with my keyboard lately, trying to learn some new tunes. Today’s adventure? “All I Think About Is You” by 3 Doors Down. I’m no Mozart, but I enjoy the process, you know?

Started off by finding where to even begin. It’s like, where do my fingers go first? Turns out, that first note, the F, is hanging out in the Middle C octave. That’s like, the third white key above Middle C for us who are just going by key color.
Then I needed to figure out the song’s key. I read that it is in B flat Major, and that’s the 8th most popular Major key, and 12th overall. Not bad!
Figuring Out the Chords
Once I had the key, the next step was figuring out the chords. I am no good at figuring these out by ear. But I saw that someone said that playing along with just the basic root chords sounds pretty good. So, that’s what I did. I focused on just matching the simplest form of the chords to the lyrics. Nothing fancy, just the basics.
Putting It All Together
With the chords down, I started trying to play along with the song. It was rough at first, my timing was all over the place. And honestly, my fingers felt like they had a mind of their own, stumbling around the keys. But I kept at it, playing it over and over. You know how it is, practice makes… well, not perfect, but at least a little better.
- First: Find that starting F note.
- Second: Get a feel for the B flat Major key.
- Third: Figure out the basic root chords.
- Fourth: Stumble through playing along, trying to keep up.
- Fifth: Repeat, repeat, repeat.
After a while, I started to get the hang of it. It wasn’t exactly concert-ready, but I could hear the song in what I was playing. And that’s a pretty cool feeling, taking a song you like and making it your own, even if it’s just in your living room with no one but your cat to judge you.

So, that’s my little musical journey for today. It’s not about being the best, it’s about enjoying the process, right? And hey, if I can do it, anyone can. Just gotta find those keys, figure out those chords, and keep practicing.
