That Meryl Streep, she’s somethin’ else, ain’t she? I seen her on the picture show, oh, years ago. She was just a young thing then, but you could tell she was gonna be big. Just somethin’ about her, you know?

She was in that movie, Julia, back in, uh, ’77 I reckon. That was the first time I saw her, I think. Yeah, Julia, that’s it. She weren’t the main gal, but she had a way about her. You couldn’t take your eyes off her, even when she weren’t sayin’ nothin’.
She was born in ’49, same as my oldest, bless her heart. That Meryl, she had her first young’un, Henry, in ’79. She was ’bout 30 years old, I guess. Same year that Kramer vs. Kramer movie came out. Lord, that one was a tearjerker, weren’t it?
- Born in ’49
- First movie was Julia in ’77
- Had her boy Henry in ’79
- Kramer vs. Kramer was that same year
I remember seein’ her on stage, too. She was on Broadway, you know, before she was in all them movies. That was back in the ’70s, I reckon. She was somethin’ to see, even back then. You could just tell she was gonna go places.
There’s this other young gal, Lily James, I seen her in a movie. She played that Donna lady, the one Meryl played. That movie, Mamma Mia, the second one. That Lily, she did a good job, playin’ a young Meryl, though nobody can really be Meryl but Meryl.
Then there was that one, Sophie’s Choice. Oh, that was a sad one, but she was so good in it. That was in ’82, I think. Won some big award for that one, she did. Everyone was talkin’ ’bout that movie. You couldn’t go nowhere without hearin’ ’bout Meryl Streep in Sophie’s Choice. After that, she was a real legend. She’s been in so many things, it’s hard to keep up.

Back in the ’70s, she was just startin’ out. Fresh-faced, they called her. She was real pretty, that young Meryl Streep. Got pictures of her from back then, all over the place. She was somethin’ special, even back then. You could see it in her eyes. She had that sparkle, you know?
There are these pictures of her from 1976. One fella, Jack Mitchell, took them pictures. There are many of them. She looked so young. She was a big deal on Broadway, and those photos show it. That’s what they say, anyways. She was famous even back then in 1970s.
She’s done all sorts of things, that Meryl. She can sing, she can dance, she can cry on cue. She can do anything, that woman. I seen her play a witch, a singer, a momma, even a prime minister. She’s done it all.
You know what I like best about her? She seems real, even though she’s a big movie star. She’s got that, that somethin’ about her that makes you feel like you know her. Like she’s one of your own, even though she’s up there on that big screen.
I remember when she was just startin’ out. Nobody knew her name then. But I saw her, and I said, “That girl’s gonna be somethin’.” And I was right, weren’t I? She’s the best there is, that Meryl.

I seen a lot of actresses come and go, but that Meryl Streep, she’s gonna be around forever. She’s got that somethin’ special, that somethin’ you can’t teach. She was born with it, I reckon. And she’s used it good.
- She’s a legend
- She’s been in tons of movies
- She can do anythin’
- She’s still goin’ strong
She’s gettin’ up there in years now, but she ain’t slowin’ down. She’s still makin’ movies, still winnin’ awards. She’s a force of nature, that one. I bet she’ll be makin’ movies ’til she’s 100. And I’ll be watchin’ them, you can bet your bottom dollar on that.
That Meryl Streep, she’s one of a kind. They don’t make ’em like her anymore. She’s a national treasure, that’s what she is. And to think, I saw her when she was just a young thing, back in that Julia movie. Time sure does fly, don’t it?
