Okay, so, I’ve been getting into collecting Louis Vuitton stuff, and the one thing that really bugs me is figuring out if a piece is real or not. Today, I want to share my experience with checking if a zipper pull is authentic because, let me tell you, it’s a detail that can make or break the deal for me.
First off, I grabbed a few of my Louis Vuitton bags, some that I know are 100% real and a couple that I’ve had my doubts about. I started by looking at the “LOUIS VUITTON” logo on the zipper pulls of the real ones. I noticed the text is pretty fine and not too thick. It’s got this elegant look to it, you know?
- Then, I took one of the suspect bags and compared it side by side. Right away, the text on the zipper pull seemed off. It was thicker and just didn’t have that refined look of the authentic ones. That was a huge red flag for me.
Check the Logo
- Next up, I checked the material. The real ones have this solid, heavy feel because they’re made of metal, usually brass, from what I know. And they’ve got this nice, shiny gold coating.
But the fakes? Some of them felt lighter, almost like plastic trying to be metal. And the color was sometimes off, kind of dull or already showing signs of wear and tear, even though they were supposed to be “new.”
Feel the Material
- I also learned that Louis Vuitton usually makes their own zippers with their “LV” logo or name on them.
- So, if you see a zipper with, say, “YKK” on it, it’s probably not a real Louis Vuitton bag, though there might be some exceptions with their shoes, I guess.
Look at the Details
Another thing I did was look for any discoloration. The real ones age gracefully, I noticed on my older Louis Vuitton items, the metal parts might get a bit of that greenish tint, called verdigris, but it looks kind of vintage and cool.
The fakes, on the other hand, they just look rusty or tarnished in a bad way.
Notice Discoloration
So, after doing all these checks, I felt way more confident in spotting a fake Louis Vuitton zipper pull. It’s all about the logo text, the material, the weight, and how it ages. I hope this helps some of you out there! Collecting these pieces can be so much fun, but nobody wants to get scammed. By paying attention to these details, you can avoid getting a fake and make sure your collection is as authentic as it gets.
