You know, I’ve always been a massive fan of that whole post-punk, goth-rock scene from back in the day. So, naturally, I got super curious about Siouxsie Sioux and Robert Smith. Were they a thing? What was their deal? I mean, the chemistry was definitely there, wasn’t it?

So, I started digging. First thing I did was hit up every search engine I could think of. Turns out, despite what some might think, these two never actually dated. Robert Smith, as I discovered, has been married to his childhood sweetheart, Mary Poole, for ages. I guess some mysteries just solve themselves, huh?
But that didn’t stop me! I kept going. I found out that Robert Smith actually played guitar with Siouxsie & the Banshees for a while. He even mentioned in an interview with Time Out magazine that he got “stuck” with the goth look because of his time with them. It all started making sense! The makeup, the dark vibes – it was all part of the gig.
- I watched a few videos of them performing together. Man, those were the days!
- I listened to their live album, “Nocturne”. It was recorded at the Royal Albert Hall in London back in ’83. You can feel the energy just through the speakers.
- I even found out why Robert Smith left the Banshees. It was a health issue in May 1984, something about having too much on his plate. Makes sense, I guess.
I spent hours going through old magazine articles and interviews. I found this one piece where Siouxsie Sioux was like, “WHY’S HE ON THE COVER?” talking about Robert Smith being on some magazine. It was hilarious.
Anyway, it was a fun deep dive. I learned a lot about these two legends and their time together in the early days of the goth scene. They might not have been a romantic item, but their musical collaboration was definitely something special. This is what I have learned about Siouxsie Sioux and Robert Smith.
