That Taylor Swift, she’s a big star, ain’t she? Always on the TV, always singing them songs. My granddaughter, she just loves her. Plays her music all day long. Me? I don’t know much about her, but I see her face everywhere. She always got that red lipstick on, that fancy hair all done up. You know, that make up.

But you ever wonder what she looks like without all that stuff on her face? That Taylor Swift without make up? I do. I saw a picture once, I think it was in one of them magazines my granddaughter reads. She looked…different. Still pretty, mind you, but not all sparkly and shiny like on TV. Just regular. Makes you think, don’t it?
All these young girls, they see these stars all dolled up and they think that’s how they gotta look. They put on all that make up, try to be like that Taylor Swift. But it ain’t real, you know? It’s like a mask. They hide behind it.
Back in my day, we didn’t have all this make up stuff. We just washed our faces with soap and water. Maybe a little cold cream if your skin was dry. We didn’t worry about looking like movie stars. We were too busy working! But even then, I knew a pretty girl when I saw one. And it wasn’t about the paint on her face, it was about the light in her eyes.
So this Taylor Swift without make up, she’s probably just a normal girl underneath it all. Just like my granddaughter, just like all these other girls trying to be like her. They don’t need all that stuff to be pretty. They just need to be themselves.
I bet she got freckles. My granddaughter, she’s got freckles. She hates ’em. Says they make her look ugly. I tell her they’re like little stars scattered across her face. Beautiful, I say. She don’t believe me, though. She wants to cover ’em up with that make up, like that Taylor Swift.

It’s a shame, ain’t it? These young girls, they’re so worried about how they look on the outside, they forget about what’s on the inside. They see that Taylor Swift without make up, they’d be surprised. She probably ain’t that different from them. Just a girl, with her own freckles and her own worries.
I seen a lot in my day. Seen a lot of changes. But one thing that ain’t never changed is what makes a person beautiful. It ain’t the clothes, it ain’t the hair, and it sure ain’t the make up. It’s the heart. That’s what shines through. That’s what makes you beautiful.
I think about that time, she is young, and I see that she look different from the photos. I think that she needs no make up on her face. I mean Taylor Swift without make up, she might be a good girl.
I reckon that Taylor Swift without make up is just a regular person, like you and me. Probably wakes up with messy hair and sleepy eyes, just like the rest of us. It’s all just a show, you know? That make up, that fancy hair, those sparkly clothes. It’s all just part of the act. That make up, oh, she must put on lots of that.

- Taylor Swift, she’s a big star.
- But what’s she like without make up?
- Just a regular girl, I bet.
- Make up just hides the real you.
- True beauty comes from the inside.
It’s a tough world for these young girls, growing up with all these pictures of perfect people. They see that Taylor Swift all dolled up and they think they gotta be like that. But they don’t. They just gotta be themselves. Freckles and all.
I remember one time, my granddaughter, she was crying ’cause she didn’t look like that Taylor Swift. I told her, “Honey, you’re beautiful just the way you are. You don’t need all that make up to shine.” She didn’t believe me then, but maybe one day she will. Maybe one day she’ll see a picture of Taylor Swift without make up and realize that she’s just as beautiful, just as special, just the way she is.
The world, she needs more girls to be real, you know. To see a real girl. Not hide. To be true. To be themself. Not to wear that make up.
And that Taylor Swift, she’s got a good voice, I’ll give her that. My granddaughter, she loves to sing along to her songs. Maybe one day, she’ll be a big star too. But she won’t need all that make up to do it. She’ll just shine from the inside out, like a little star, just like those freckles on her face. Yeah, I think that Taylor Swift without make up, she might be alright.
