Okay, so, I’ve been messing around with this “washed black” style for a bit, and let me tell you, it’s been a journey. I started out thinking, “Oh, this is just gonna be some faded black clothes, how hard can it be?” Boy, was I wrong.
First off, I tried to just wash some of my regular black jeans like a hundred times. I threw them in the washer, used hot water, cold water, even added some bleach (don’t do that, by the way, it just makes them look weird and blotchy). They faded a little, sure, but it was nowhere near that cool, worn-in look I was going for.
- Tried washing regular black jeans repeatedly.
- Experimented with hot and cold water.
- Used bleach (disastrous results).
Then I got this idea to maybe sand them down a bit. I grabbed some sandpaper, you know, the kind you use for woodworking, and started rubbing it on the fabric. It was working, kind of, but it was also taking forever, and my arms were getting tired. Plus, it was making this dusty mess everywhere. And it’s kind of ruined.
After that, I just decided to buy some actual washed black jeans. It’s my favorite foundation for a monochromatic winter look. The key is to choose the right wash, one that actually looks good. Some of them look like a weird gray, and that’s not what I wanted at all. Finally, I found a pair that had that perfect balance of faded but still black.
Styling
Now, styling these jeans was another adventure. I figured out that pairing them with a simple black sweater and some cool boots or sneakers is a no-brainer. It’s easy, it’s chic, and it always looks good. I also tried mixing in some earth tones, like an olive green jacket or a rust-colored scarf. It softens up the look and makes it a bit more interesting.
To brighten the look, I also sometimes throw on a white T-shirt or some white sneakers. It adds a nice contrast and makes the whole outfit pop. Neutrals like beige or gray work great too. They give it this sophisticated vibe that I really like.
Honestly, it took me a while to get the hang of this washed black thing. But now that I have, I’m loving it. It’s become my go-to style for when I want to look put-together but still feel comfortable. If you’re thinking about trying it out, I say go for it! Just maybe skip the DIY part and buy some pre-washed jeans, trust me on that one.
