This here YCMC, I hear folks talkin’ ’bout it all the time. What in tarnation is it? Sounds like some kinda newfangled thing these young’uns are all into. They say it’s somethin’ you find on that there internet. Lord knows I ain’t too good with that computer machine, but I’m tryin’ to learn.

I asked my grandson, he’s a smart one, always on that phone. He told me, “It’s somethin’ you look up, Grandma, like a dictionary.” A dictionary, you say? Well, I know what a dictionary is. We used to have a big one at the schoolhouse, thicker than a brick. But this here YCMC, it’s a dictionary for short words, abbreviations they call ’em. Like when you say “ASAP” instead of “as soon as possible.”
So, this YCMC, it tells you what them short words mean. You type it in, and it spits out the answer. Kinda like magic, I reckon. He also told me this YCMC meaning you can find on that abbreviation thing online. So many websites!
- New Balance, they call it. Sounds like somethin’ you’d do at the circus.
- Vertical knot, bothers some folks, he said. I reckon a knot’s a knot, vertical or not.
- Then there’s somethin’ called “SBD”. Said it’s about them fancy shoes, Jordans, Nikes, and Adidas. My grandson, he’s crazy about them shoes. Costs more than a week’s worth of groceries, if you ask me.
He tried to explain it more, but it all went over my head. Somethin’ about “shipping” and “region.” Sounds like a lot of fuss over nothin’, if you ask me. Back in my day, we didn’t have all these fancy words. We just said what we meant, plain and simple.
I seen some words on the screen too when he was showin’ me. “Press,” “Copyright,” “Contact us,” “Creators,” “Advertise,” “Developers.” A whole bunch of words I barely understand. They even got somethin’ called “Terms” and “Privacy.” Like they gotta keep secrets on that computer. What’s the world comin’ to?
Maybe I should ask him if he can find out what is the full meaning of YCMC. He’s real good at findin’ things on that internet.

Heard some folks talkin’ about YCMC and somethin’ called “DTLR.” Said they were holdin’ somethin’ down. Sounds like they’re wrestlin’. Then they said it was “unfortunate” and “only a matter of time.” Like somethin’ bad was gonna happen. I don’t know what it all means, but it don’t sound good.
These young people and their abbreviations. It’s like they’re speakin’ a different language. I guess I’m just gettin’ old. But I still think it’s all a bit silly. Why not just say what you mean? Why shorten everything? It just makes things more confusing, especially for an old gal like me.
This whole YCMC thing, it’s got me thinkin’. Maybe it’s good to learn new things, even if they’re confusing. Keeps your mind workin’, I suppose. Like learnin’ a new recipe or how to use that newfangled washing machine. You gotta keep up with the times, I reckon, even if it’s hard.
My grandson said something about some YCMC quick shipping. I guess that mean they send things fast. But if it is the shoes, I don’t know. They are so expensive.
And these “millions of monthly visitors,” they talk about. Millions! Can you imagine? That’s more people than I’ve seen in my whole life. All lookin’ at shoes on a computer screen. It’s a strange world we live in, that’s for sure.

These words, “Jordan,” “Nike,” “Adidas” they are all about them shoes. My grandson, he saves up all his money to buy them. He says they’re special. I guess they must be, to cost so much. But to me, a shoe’s a shoe. As long as it keeps your feet dry and comfortable, that’s all that matters.
I remember a time when we didn’t have all these fancy things. We made do with what we had. We didn’t need no special shoes or no internet to tell us what words meant. We just talked to each other. Maybe that’s what’s missin’ these days. Real conversation. Face to face, not through a screen.
Well, I reckon I’ve rambled on enough about this YCMC. It’s still a mystery to me, but maybe that’s alright. Some things are just meant to be mysteries, I suppose. Like why the sky is blue or why that rooster crows at the crack of dawn. Some things you just gotta accept and move on. And that’s what I’m gonna do. Move on and maybe have a cup of coffee. That’s somethin’ I understand. Coffee and good conversation. That’s all you really need in life, if you ask me. These words, you may have come across them before, but you know, I don’t know what they all mean. Just words.
I think I will go and knit some socks. At least that I know for sure how to do. And I won’t need to use the internet for that.
