Today, I really felt like exploring, so I decided to check out Virginia Key. You know, just to see what all the fuss is about. I’d heard some things here and there, but nothing beats going there yourself, right?

So, I packed a small bag with some essentials—water, snacks, sunscreen, the usual—and headed out early in the morning. I wanted to beat the crowd and get a good parking spot. Driving there was pretty straightforward. I just followed the directions on my phone, and boom, I was there.
First thing I did was hit the beach. I mean, who goes to a place called Virginia Key and doesn’t go to the beach? The sand was so soft, and the water was just the right kind of cool. I spent a good couple of hours just lounging around, reading a book, and people-watching. There were families building sandcastles, couples taking walks, and even some folks trying to windsurf—it was quite a scene.
After getting my fill of the sun and sand, I decided to explore a bit more. I walked along a trail that led to a more secluded area. It was quieter there, with lots of trees and shade. I found a nice spot, sat down, and just enjoyed the peace and quiet. It’s amazing how different the vibe was just a short walk away from the main beach.
- Explored the beach
- Walked along trails
- Enjoyed the natural beauty
I also stumbled upon a little historical spot—apparently, there used to be some old structures there from way back when. There were signs with information, and I spent some time reading about the history of the area. It’s always cool to learn something new, especially when you’re not expecting it.
As the day went on, I decided to grab a bite to eat at a small shack near the beach. They had all sorts of snacks and drinks. I got myself a cold drink and a hot dog—simple, but satisfying. It felt good to just sit there, eating and taking in the view.

Getting There
Driving is probably the easiest way to get to Virginia Key. There’s plenty of parking, though it does fill up fast on weekends. I noticed some people also biking there, which seems like a fun way to arrive if you’re into that.
By the end of the day, I was pretty tired but in a good way. I had spent the whole day outside, exploring, relaxing, and just enjoying the simple pleasures of life. Virginia Key turned out to be a great spot for a day trip. It’s got a little bit of everything—beach, nature, history—and it’s not too crowded, which is a big plus.
If you’re ever in the area and looking for a chill place to spend the day, I’d definitely recommend checking out Virginia Key. Just remember to bring sunscreen and maybe a good book, and you’re all set for a nice, relaxing day.
