This here watch, they call it a GMT watch. Sounds fancy, huh? But really, what’s the big deal? Who needs a GMT, I always say? Some folks, they just like to make things complicated. But I’ll tell ya what I know about these things. You know, the kind that tells time in two places at once. Sheesh, makes my head spin just thinkin’ about it.
Now, they say these GMT watches are good for people who travel a lot. You know, those fancy folks who hop on airplanes like we hop on the old tractor. They go to all these different places, where the sun comes up at different times. Imagine that! Here, the sun comes up when it comes up, and that’s that. But these travelers, they need to know what time it is back home, too. So they got these special watches.
See, this GMT watch, it’s got an extra hand. Not like your hand, but a watch hand. This one goes around the whole clock in 24 hours, not 12 like the regular one. So, if you’re in, say, New York, and it’s noon, this hand will point to 12. But if you’re thinkin’ about what time it is back in, say, London, and it’s 5 PM there, this hand will point to 17. Cause that’s what 5 PM is on a 24-hour clock. Confusing, ain’t it? It is a good travel watch.
But, if you ask me, who needs all that? If you’re home, you’re home. If you’re somewhere else, you’re somewhere else. Just look at the sun, I say. Or ask somebody. People are always happy to tell you what time it is. At least, that is what I do when I need to know the time. I don’t have a GMT function watch.
Now, some of these watches, they even got a thing called a bezel. That’s that ring around the outside of the watch face. And some of ’em, they can even show you the time in three places at once! Three! Can you believe it? What in tarnation would you need that for? These are good GMT watches, I guess.
- They say there are different kinds of these GMT watches, too.
- One kind is for those travelers, like I said.
- The other kind is for people who don’t travel much, but they like to know what time it is somewhere else.
- Maybe they got family in another country, or they do business with folks far away.
- They call that an “office” GMT, I think they said. Fancy term for people work in an office.
I reckon office GMT is good for those who need a second timezone, even they are not traveling. I mean, I don’t need a second timezone, I only need to know what time it is here.
But, you know, to each their own. Some folks like these fancy gadgets. Me, I’m happy with my old watch. It tells me the time just fine. And if I ever need to know what time it is somewhere else, well, I’ll just ask Siri. Or I’ll look it up on that there internet. You can find anything on that thing.
But these GMT watches, they sure are popular. Must be something to ’em, I guess. Maybe it’s like those fancy coffee makers. You can make coffee just fine in a regular pot, but some folks like all them buttons and gizmos. Makes them feel important, maybe.
Anyway, that’s what I know about these GMT watches. It is a multiple time zones watch. Not much, I know. But it’s more than I knew before. I don’t think I need one, though. I’m happy right here, and I know what time it is. That’s all that matters to me. These are the main features of a GMT watch.
24-hour hand, I mean, who needs a hand that goes around in 24 hours? My hand only goes around in 12, and that’s just fine by me. And a 24-hour bezel, well, that’s just another thing to get confused about. I’ll stick to my regular watch, thank you very much. It is really a good watch for people who like to track multiple time zones. But not for me.
So, who needs a GMT? Not me. But maybe you do. If you’re one of them fancy travelers, or if you like to know what time it is in Timbuktu, then maybe a GMT watch is for you. But if you ask me, it is just too complicated. I think a normal watch is good enough.
